What is a root canal procedure?
Teeth contain pulp, which makes sure they get the nutrients it needs. If a tooth has an infection, it can spread deeply into the pulp and roots, which can spread and form an abscess.
A root canal procedure removes and reshapes the infected area, preventing it from further spreading and saving the tooth from extraction.
Causes of tooth infection
Tooth decay and fillings that leak are common causes of infection. Trauma, such as a fall that injures your teeth can also cause the bacteria in your mouth to attack the teeth. Signs you may need a root canal include:
- Oversensitivity to hot and cold
- Teeth that ache when you chew
- Inflamed gums
- Swelling at the side of the gum, the tooth or in the face
- Puss around the tooth
- Painful, loose or discoloured teeth
If you’re suffering from any of these symptoms, you may require root canal treatment. If so, get in touch today with Manor Dental Centre.
